Elvira is a polymorphic virus without any dangerous effects that infects files with an EXE or COM extension.

Elvira is an encrypted virus, which employs the system time as a key for encoding itself.

It is also a stealth virus, as it uses different ways to hide the effects of its infection.

Elvira does not use any specific means to spread. It can reach computers through the normal means used by viruses: e-mail messages with infected attachments, computer networks, CD-ROMs, Internet downloads, FTP, floppy disks, etc.

It is easy to know if Elvira has infected a computer, as it displays the following messages on screen:

• (c) Spanska 97, inside the infected program window.
• When the system time reaches 16:00 and thirty seconds, Elvira will display an animated text:
